Terms of Service

These terms are an agreement between you and [COMPANY LEGAL NAME] ("PrefsDB", "we", "us"), which runs prefsdb.com and the PrefsDB API. By using the website, the API, the JavaScript client or a PrefsDB account, you agree to them. If you use PrefsDB on behalf of an organization, you agree for that organization.

1. The service

PrefsDB stores key/value data, lists and files for apps, reachable through an API key. You can get a key without an account, from a seed phrase you choose, or create keys in an account's dashboard. We may change, add or remove features over time.

2. API keys and accounts

• Keep your keys, seed phrases and account login secret. Anyone who has a key can use it, and we can't tell them apart from you.
• Keys made from a seed phrase can't be recovered if you lose the phrase. There is no password reset, because there is no password.
• Keys created in your dashboard are for your own apps, sites and servers. You may let your app's users reach PrefsDB through your app, including by having your app create a key for each user.
• You may not sell, rent, share, sublicense or give away dashboard keys, or access to your account, for other people to use in their own projects.
• You are responsible for what happens under your keys and account.

3. Acceptable use

You may not use PrefsDB to:

• store or send anything illegal, or anything that infringes someone else's rights;
• store or spread malware, or attack or probe other systems;
• try to reach data stored under keys that aren't yours, or test or work around the service's security;
• get around limits, for example by creating many accounts or keys to add up their allowances;
• send traffic meant to overload or disrupt the service;
• send spam, or harass anyone.

4. Limits and plans

Every key and account works within limits on requests, data transfer, storage, file size and number of keys. The limits depend on the plan and are shown in the documentation and your dashboard. We may change the limits, and the free plan, at any time. Paid plans, when offered, are billed through our payment provider. A canceled paid plan stays in effect until the end of the period already paid for.

5. Your data

• Your data stays yours. You give us permission to store, copy and transmit it only as needed to run the service for you.
• We don't sell your data.
• Data you give a time-to-live is deleted when it expires. A key deleted from the dashboard can be restored for 30 days; after that it is deleted together with everything stored under it.
• You can download a key's data from the dashboard. Keep your own copies of anything important: we don't promise that stored data can't be lost.

6. Suspension and termination

We may suspend or remove a key, or suspend or close an account, if it breaks these terms, puts the service or other users at risk, or if the law requires it. Where we reasonably can, we will tell you first. A suspended account's keys stop working. You can stop using PrefsDB at any time, and delete your keys and data from the dashboard.

7. No warranty

PrefsDB is provided "as is" and "as available". We don't promise that it will always be available, error-free or fit for a particular purpose, to the extent the law allows.

8. Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential losses, or for lost profits, revenue or data. Our total liability for any claim about PrefsDB is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.

9. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The date at the top shows the latest version. If a change matters for how you use PrefsDB, we will say so on the website or in your dashboard before it takes effect. Using PrefsDB after a change means you accept the new terms.

10. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of [GOVERNING LAW].
